De-stress in a Stressed Filled World
If you are anything like me then you tend to stress about things that happened, will happen, or could possible happen sometime in the future. This means that you stress a great deal and have a hard time detaching from that stress. The bad thing about this is that stress really is not helping you get anything done, but rather hindering the entire process. Stress can hinder you both mentally and physically, which can be even more stressful! These are some habits and tips will help you destress from day to day happenings and calm the worrisome part of your mind for a bit.
#1. Cup O’ Tea
The classic cup of tea. It is amazing how much just holding on to a warm mug of freshly brewed tea with honey can bring your stress level right down. It can bring you into that moment in time and let you relax into it fully. This is a great relaxer since you can do this quick and easy, as well as with kids in tow!
#2. Just Breathe
This is the on-the-go destressor and even works well for those high difficulty moments of parenthood. Those moments when you are trying to plan the thousand errands you need to do that day, while your toddler tantrums and you swear your keys were right here a minute ago! You just stop. Take a deep breathe in counting to four and then push that breathe out with a count of eight, nice and slow. Keep doing that a few times, only takes less than a minute. You can almost instantly feel a bit of calm to hold on to and some stress leave that moment in time. Try it out!
#3. Bubble Bath/Warm Shower
Everyone says bubble baths are the big time relaxer, and if you like baths like do it up! However, I rarely have the time nor the want to take a long bath so I stick with nice warm showers to melt my stress away. You turn some music on and just enjoy standing under the hot water as you take your time. I swear showers have become a luxury now that I have the little one, totally took those for granted before!
#4. Makin’ A List
You know you started singing the Christmas song! But really, making lists keeps me from going completely crazy. A list will put that jumble of thoughts and duties into an organized form and then the best part is that you get to cross-parts off! I will even put things I already did on the list just so that I can cross them off after. It will make you feel very productive, my dear. As soon as you start crossing things off, then the stress lowers and lowers.
I know everyone says yoga, but honestly try some of the easier pose routines and make sure to do the deep breathing! If you are a beginner, do not try the crazy handstand poses (although it may give you a laugh, which is always a good destressor) but find the easier poses that give you a stretch but do not send you tumbling. If you are able to snatch five to ten minutes of yoga a day, then it can lower your stress level and get your mind re-center to tackle the other areas of your world.
